Fox was retained by the Freedom Forum/Newseum in September 2005 to plan and manage its relocation from their facilities in Rosslyn, VA and Laurel, MD to the newly constructed Newseum in Washington, DC. The Newseum is a 250,000-square-foot museum of news which combines news history and the role of the media presented in galleries, theaters, and interactive exhibits.
The challenge for Fox was complex: consolidate the majority of the Newseum staff to the administrative wing of the new facility while the museum itself was undergoing construction. Fox was successful in balancing the readiness of the space for installation with the Newseum objectives to meet critical operational timelines.
Fox was responsible for furniture RFP development and selection, as well as oversight of a 7-month installation effort. The furniture and relocation scope of work was originally planned to span 14 months. The Fox team easily adapted to multiple schedule changes and delays by accommodating several smaller moves as the schedule and scope expanded to 28 months. During the first phase, staff vital to building operations made a seamless transition to the new space. From December 2007 through January 2008, Fox then relocated approximately 140 remaining staff members from two separate facilities on 8 different move dates.
Fox is pleased to have successfully accomplished all of the goals set forth by the Newseum and looks forward to its successful future as one of Washington, DC’s most prominent museums.
