Genzyme

Q:

How do you track tens of thousands of details in a high profile move and still meet client expectations?

A:

With a highly sophisticated, customized CAFM tracking system

Challenge:

The new Genzyme Center is the first LEED-certified “green building” in Boston and the first to receive platinum status in the U.S. 270,000 square feet, 850 employees, all with decision-making power, and a myriad of clinical and regulatory issues made this move a singular challenge.

Strategy:

Working with Genzyme over 18 months, we verified the program - the business and spatial requirements - and provided the stacking plan - how the people and departments need to be allocated. We then developed move-phasing options, established budgets, tailored the move strategy, and managed the move from first to last. We crafted a customized CAFM solution that enabled the facilities and transition teams, working independently, to monitor changes and stay in sync. Move coordinators could also log onto the system to run reports, and get the status virtually in real-time. In addition, we used the system to track individual furniture selections, saving significant time and money in the installation.

Results:

We completed this 5-phase move in less than five weeks, and each phase was 24 hours ahead of schedule. We maintained smooth operations at all locations throughout, had minimal post-move requests, and brought the whole project in 10% under budget. A week later, everyone was unpacked and ready for Genzyme's big holiday party!
